Hemingford was first settled in 1885 by Canadian immigrants and officially platted a year later by the Lincoln Land Company, who named the town after the settlers\u2019 former home in Hemmingsford, Canada. Early on, Hemingford played a central role in county affairs, briefly serving as the Box Butte County seat before it was relocated to Alliance in 1899.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In the early 20th century, Hemingford earned the title \u201cPotato Capital of the World,\u201d shipping nearly 2,000 carloads of potatoes in 1930. Known for its strong agricultural roots, Hemingford remains a vital part of Nebraska\u2019s northern Panhandle today, proud of its heritage and the people who have shaped it.\u00a0<\/p>\n
